  9. 1) Although the Portfolio does not 
  10. have the MS-DOS SORT.COM command, 
  11. you can easily use the Address Book 
  12. to perform simple alphabetic sorts.  
  13.  Simply place a blank line between 
  14. each entry in your file to be 
  15. sorted, open the file in the address 
  16. book, re-save it in the address book 
  17. and voila - a sorted file.  The sort 
  18. will be performed on the first word 
  19. in the first line.  Enjoy!!

  21. 2) Using the Portfolio's Address 
  22. Book as a simple flat file database 
  23. manager:  Since you can have 
  24. multiple address book files in the 
  25. Portfolio, it is a simple matter to 
  26. use it as a database manager.  Use 
  27. the top line for the name/subject 
  28. and use the bottom lines for the 
  29. actual data.  The names/subjects 
  30. will be sorted automatically and can 
  31. be selected using the Cards command.  
  32. You can make mini Hypercard-like 
  33. stacks on the Portfolio!!

  35. 3) Using Batch files to make life 
  36. easier:  Instead of grueling over 
  37. the C> prompt and attempting to 
  38. figure out commands, place them in a 
  39. .BAT file and let DOS do the work.  
  40. For example, a file called D.BAT can 
  41. contain the command DIR/P.  To see 
  42. the directory one page at a time, 
  43. simply type D and Return.

  45. 4) To eliminate hard carriage 
  46. returns in text exported through the 
  47. Portfolio's smart parallel 
  48. interface, you can use a program 
  49. such as Strip.COM or you can import 
  50. the file into First Publisher and 
  51. Export it as a .TXT file.  All the 
  52. hard carriage returns at the end of 
  53. each line will be removed.

  55. 5) If you cannot find an Atari AC 
  56. adapter, you can use a generic AC 
  57. adapter such as the HE+ Universal 
  58. Adapter available at Best products.  
  59. ($12.99)  Only adapters with a 
  60. miniature power supply connector 
  61. will work.  Set the adapter for 6V 
  62. and make sure the tip polarity is 
  63. set for positive!   An adapter 
  64. should be used when connecting the 
  65. Portfolio to peripherals such as the 
  66. parallel or serial interfaces.  They 
  67. are really power hungry.
